Vitamin C in skin care – we nourish ourselves in the vitamin

Vitamin C is one of the most classical ingredients in skin care products. But what does the vitamin really do for the skin?

Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps to protect the skin from the effects of air pollution, for example. It also helps to smooth out the skin tone, give luster and is collagen-reinforcing. It also helps keep the moisture balance in the skin and make the skin resist older signs anymore.

There are several types of Vitamin C. The most widely researched variant is ascorbic acid (L ascorbic acid, E3000). Among other things, it will work against pigment stains, relax the skin and give the collagen a boost. Vitamin C derivatives are designed to be a bit prettier to the skin than pure ascorbic acid. They also have a better ability to penetrate further into the skin (Dermis).

Ascorbyl palmitate and magnesium ascorbyl phosphate are two of which the latter is best for increasing collagen synthesis, that is, which gives the skin its firmness. Vitamin C, among other things, helps crosslink the collagen and helps activate the collagen synthesis process that is dependent on vitamin C. Collagen is a protein composed of several different amino acids. It is primarily the amino acids proline and lysine that refuse to work without ascorbic acid.

Vitamin C is good in skin care for:

  • Reduce hyperpigmentation
  • Protect against free radicals

But Vitamin C is unstable and difficult to handle. Many are the researchers who have sworn over the vitamin in their labs. It is very volatile and quickly disappears from the product if it is not stabilized. Therefore, several skin care companies offer vitamin C products in powder form, disposable caps or products in waterproof packages.

Vitamin works just the same way in food – if you cook broccoli, the largest amount of Vitamin C disappears. Just the same way if you cut the paprika and put a piece into the refrigerator without plastering it – Vitamin C is oxidizing.

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin which means that the excess you eat is kissed. It is not possible to store the vitamin in the body and therefore we need to get it regularly.

It is important to absorb the vitamin through the food, both for the skin, for the iron and for the development of bone tissue. Make sure you get at least 75 mg a day. If you are a smoker, you need a lot more. Do not forget that the skin gets all the nutrients last since there are other functions in the body that are significantly more important.
